Overview

Telemeta is a free and open source collaborative multimedia asset management system (MAM) which introduces fast and secure methods to archive, backup, transcode, analyse, annotate and publish any digitalized video or audio file with extensive metadata. It is dedicated to collaborative media archiving projects, research laboratories and digital humanities - especially in ethno-musicological use cases - who need to easily organize and publish documented sound collections of audio files, CDs, digitalized vinyls and magnetic tapes over a strong database, through a smart and secure platform, in accordance with open web standards.

Telemeta project presented at middle and south America sound archive communities

Thanks to Perla Olivia Rodrigues from IIBI / UNAM University from Mexico, Dr. Guillaume Pellerin and Eng. Joséphine Simonnot have been able to present the Telemeta project and its open source strategies to a large community of professionals of middle and south America. The session has been streamed online thanks to IIBI.

Archives of the French Research Centre of Ethnomusicology (CREM)

The audio archives of the CNRS – Musée de l’Homme gather commercial and unpublished recordings of music and oral traditions from around the world, from 1900 to the present. Consisting of diverse types of media (wax cylinders, 78 rpm, vinyl records, magnetic tapes, audio CDs, born digital records), these archives are among the most important in Europe in terms of quality, quantity and diversity.

Managed by the Center for Research in Ethnomusicology (CREM), these archives index:

  • Over 42,000 unpublished sound documents, among which 32.000 are available for listening, spread though more that 1,000 collections, representing about 4,000 hours of recordings of unpublished fieldworks.

Telemeta 1.6.4 is out!

ChangeLog:

  • Minor bug fixes and improvments
  • Fix HTML5 audio compatibility (#173) for the web audio player. The SoundManager Flash player fallback should not be used in most modern web browser. Media files are now serves through Nginx (#155) which enables to stream music with byte range requests.
  • Add a User permission "can_run_analysis" to specify that a user or a group of users has the right to list and select advanced Timeside analysis to be displayed in the Timeside web audio player.
  • Temporarily remove Timeside server from INSTALLED_APPS until the development of this application is more advanced and is really used by Telemeta.
  • Add enumeration management and statitics
  • Improved media security allowing streaming through Nginx only from the application

Telemeta 1.7 has been released!

After months of hard development, I am very pleased to release Telemeta 1.7! It includes many transparent changes, mainly upgrading a lot of dependencies, especially those brought by the audio engine TimeSide which has also been released in its new version.

Telemeta 1.6 is finally out!

Telemeta is now usable on any OS, ready for development and for production in 5 mn! B-)

  • Provide a docker image and composition for the full Telemeta application bundle. One month after the publication of docker-compose around march 2015, we had managed to build a prototyped composition which bundled all the dependencies of Telemeta and TimeSide. It took almost one year to deeply investigate all the capabilities of Docker and various images to finally release a propoer composition which bundles all the necessary applications and modules.
  • Full refactoring of the search engine and interface using django-haystack and ElasticSearch with new faceting and smart filtering features
  • Add an automatic EPUB3 ebook exporter for corpus and collections embedding metadata, image and audio materials.

Telemeta at the 21st Symposium of the ICTM Study Group on Historical Sources of Traditional Music

Telemeta and the DIADEMS team participate to the 21st Symposium of the ICTM Study Group on Historical Sources of Traditional Music (ICTM) will take place on 9-13 March 2016 in Paris, France, by invitation of Susanne Fürniss, MNHN. The conference site is the Musée de l’Homme, and the Meeting is hosted by the Musée National d'Histoire Naturelle (MNHN).

Only 1 month after the publication of the docker-compose tools by Docker and after 1 month more of hard development and test by the Parisson team, we are very pleased to launch the docker based distribution of Telemeta which should make it compatible with ANY platform.

To test, use, develop or even deploy your own Telemeta based project, please use our DevBox.
